| It has been about 20 years since Penang First started the first Baba Nyonya service in Penang. Initially, most of the congregation comprised parents of members who were not English educated. Today we see believers coming from all backgrounds as they are attracted by the way our Hokkien Service is run. | ![]() |

There is always an atmosphere of celebration of God's goodness and faithfulness for every service. People's faces beam with joy as they enter the house of God, regardless of whether they are young or old, wheel-chair bound or leaning on someone's arm for support. | ||
| There is a strong sense of belonging which binds the members together. Our love is shown in the little things we do. Every Sunday, there is a counter set up to monitor the blood pressure for elderly members and their weekly reading is kept by the church. After each service, there is a snack for all to take home. Come end of the month, there is a birthday celebration for those born in that month. They get to cut a birthday cake and receive a small gift as well. | ![]() |

But the wonder of the Hokkien Service is the simple faith of the elderly to believe God for miracles. Miracles of salvation, healing and deliverance continue to take place as the people rise up to worship and pray. Many have tasted of the goodness of God and are found in the Thursday prayer meeting every week. Truly, all are kept by the power of God and we know that there are greater things in store for them. |
